Earlier today, August 12, Japanese firm Metaplanet announced a fresh 518 BTC purchase while taking advantage of the BTC price dips to $118,000. As a result, the company now holds a total of 18,113 BTC in its treasury. Besides, the Japanese firm is also closing the gap with Bitcoin miner Riot platform to become the fifth-largest publicly listed BTC firm.
Metaplanet Buys the Bitcoin Price Dips, Expanding BTC Holdings
Following the rally to $122,000 over the past week, the Bitcoin price has corrected by over 4% and is currently finding support at $118,000. Metaplanet leverages the dip opportunity by announcing a fresh purchase of 518 BTC.
Also known as Japan’s MicroStrategy, the company purchased Bitcoins for approximately $61.4 million, at an average price of $118,519 per BTC. Following their latest purchase, the company achieved a year-to-date BTC yield of 468.1% in 2025.
As of August 12, 2025, the company holds 18,113 BTC, acquired for roughly $1.85 billion at an average purchase price of $101,911 per BTC. Since the beginning of 2025, Metaplanet has been on a massive acquisition spree, drawing a leaf from Michael Saylor’s BTC acquisition playbook.
The Japanese firm has set itself the target of acquiring 1% of the total TC supply i.e. 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. In order to raise funds for the same, the company is practicing a mix of equity dilution and bond issuance.
Metaplanet Stock Continues to Drive Institutional Demand
The Metplanet stock (TYO: 3350) has corrected nearly 50% from the June highs of 1,900 JPY, and is currently trading at 975 JPY, on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. However, despite this, the company continues to draw institutional demand.
Adam Livingston, author of The Bitcoin Age, said that if Metaplanet maintains its pace of acquiring 518 BTC per week for the rest of 2025, the company’s holdings would increase by about 10,434 BTC, reaching roughly 28,547 BTC.
He further added that this projection is conservative yet represents a 57.6% increase in the firm’s Bitcoin holdings in just over four months. Based on this analysis, Livingston added that the Metaplanet stock appears to be a clear buying opportunity compared to traditional equities tied to future cash flow.
As the MTPLF stock has entered a strong consolidation, most market analysts believe that this is a great time for investors to fill their bags. Once the Japanese firm kicks off its next phase of BTC accumulation, the stock could come out of its bearish phase, staging a strong rally ahead.
Bitcoin Price Correction Provides Buy The Dips Opportunity
Bitcoin price is down 2.31% at $118,764 today, suggesting a bearish divergence on charts. This comes following BTC’s failure to break past the all-time highs of $123,000.

Crypto analyst Captain Faibik noted that Bitcoin has faced another rejection at the $120,000 level and is currently trading within a rising wedge pattern. He said a downside breakout could shift market sentiment bearish. On the other hand, bulls will need to defend wedge support and decisively break above $120,000 to maintain control.

Another popular trader, Merlijn The Trader, said that the recent Bitcoin price pullback is in order to fill the CME Gap. As a result, BTC could test the lows of $116,800 before bouncing back. The analyst noted that Bitcoin is approaching the CME gap near $118,000, describing the level as a key price “magnet.” Historically, gap fills at this stage have preceded the next leg higher in the market. While retail traders may react with panic, analysts see it as a buy-the-dips opportunity.
