Key Insights:
- BlackRock’s IBIT leads in single-day net outflows of $3.98 billion.
- ETH withdrawals is accelerating on Binance and Coinbase Exchanges.
- ETH overtakes BTC in ETF inflows, raising breakout expectations for the altcoin
The Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) market saw $3.98 billion outflows, specifically from BlackRock’s IBIT. While this is happening, Ethereum saw continued spot market withdrawals from the Binance exchange.
The massive Bitcoin ETF outflows coincided with recent volatility in the leading coin. Bitcoin fell sharply from its all-time high around $124,000 to below $110,000 this month.
Massive ETF Outflows Hit BlackRock
CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha highlighted in a QuickTake post that BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recently recorded one of the biggest outflows.
On Monday, August 25, 2025, net withdrawals from IBIT totaled approximately $3.98 billion. This figure surpasses the previous high of $2.68 billion seen on August 1.
Such huge outflows suggest a renewed wave of panic among investors, likely triggered by BTC falling below the $110,000 psychological level.
Thus, the $3.98 billion outflows from IBIT indicate capitulation behavior as investors rushed to liquidate positions amid perceived downside risk.
Bitcoin has struggled to regain momentum since falling from its ATH of $124,171.
There is a sentiment by analyst Willy Woo that BTC is going through growing pains due to increased accumulation among whale investors.
The analyst noted that whales who purchased BTC at $10 or lower in 2011 have steadily increased their stake. These investors are selling strategically, resulting in a supply overhang that dampened the BTC price rally.
As of this writing, the BTC price was hovering around $110,682, increasing slightly by 0.5% over the past 24 hours.
However, investor activity remained low, as indicated by the declining trading volume. This key metric decreased by 26% over the previous day to $63.34 billion.
Bitcoin-Ethereum Flows on Binance
Meanwhile, BTC spot volume on Binance surged to over $6.8 billion in just a day. This is a sign of high volatility where institutional and retail traders repositioned aggressively.
This spot volume spike, contrasting with ETF outflows, suggests accumulation by buyers absorbing supply. Such dynamics often precede short-term Bitcoin price rebounds based on historical patterns.
Hence, if this pattern holds this cycle, the BTC price will likely rally to new highs.
In contrast to BTC, Ethereum witnessed large withdrawals from both Binance and Coinbase. On August 24, 157,000 ETH and 127,000 ETH were withdrawn from Binance and Coinbase, respectively.
These withdrawals, valued at about $1.25 billion, pointed to whale accumulation and long-term holding.

This contrasts with Bitcoin’s ETF-driven selling, indicating stronger confidence among large Ethereum investors despite market turbulence.
Summarily, while some BTC investors are exiting the ETF market, institutional ETH players remain confident in the coin’s upside potential.
Divergence Between ETH and Bitcoin ETFs
Amid the ongoing market volatility, both the BTC and ETH ETFs recorded substantial inflows on August 26, 2025. However, a clear divergence exists in the funds that flowed into the investment instruments.
According to Farside investors data, Ethereum spot ETFs attracted $445 million in net inflows. On the other hand, Bitcoin ETFs saw modest inflows of $88 million.

This marks a continuation of the institutional rotation toward ETF. It builds on the previous day’s $3.98 billion IBIT outflow spike and the 284,000 ETH outflows from Binance and Coinbase.
Analysts claim whales and large holders are increasingly betting on the potential of ETH, often dubbed the “king of smart contracts.”
Historically, such patterns where ETH outperforms BTC often precede altcoin rallies. Ethereum could enter its season if trends hold this cycle, potentially climbing above its all-time high. Indicators of market opinion even point to a breakout at $5,000.
Currently, ETH is priced at $4,616.7, up more than 4% over the previous day, with a market cap of $557.1 billion.
