Key Insights:
- Gold just hit a new high as investors eye US rate cut prospects.
- Bitcoin recorded $524 million inflows despite broader fund outflows.
- Ethereum led weekly withdrawals with $912 million in outflows.
Gold is gaining more strength while Bitcoin records steady inflows despite wider crypto fund outflows. Amid the growing altcoin shift, Ethereum leads the week’s withdrawals.
Analysts suggest Bitcoin could soon follow gold if resistance levels break, as institutional flows show mixed global sentiment.
Gold at New Peak, Market Looks for Direction
It is worth noting that Gold set a new record this week, strengthening its image as a safe choice for investors.
The move comes as traders respond to weaker US payroll numbers and speculation about a possible interest rate cut later in September.
Lower interest rates often support gold, and that trend is playing out again. Commentators noted that gold and Bitcoin often trade in cycles.
One tends to lead while the other follows. Analyst Jelle points to gold showing strength first, with Bitcoin likely to catch up later.
He described the correlation as a familiar pattern where the two assets take turns leading the market.

Bitcoin watchers are also paying attention to longer-term charts. Kaleo, another market analyst, argued that the bottom looks set.
He noted that in earlier bull markets, Bitcoin often accelerated once it broke through major resistance levels.
If that happens again, he expects a sharp move upward, with altcoins and even NFTs joining in once risk appetite returns.
Global conditions remain a key driver for both assets. Investors are balancing softer economic data with expectations of policy easing in the United States.
This backdrop supports gold’s climb, but Bitcoin still needs to prove it can push beyond resistance before it benefits similarly.
Bitcoin Inflows Stand Out, Ethereum Faces Pressure
Bitcoin attracted $524 million of inflows over the past week. This comes even as digital asset products overall record $352 million of outflows.
The numbers show that institutional interest in Bitcoin is still solid, despite weaker flows in the sector as a whole.
Bitcoin’s total inflows for 2025 now stand at $21.3 billion, with $171.6 billion managed through investment products.
Ethereum tells a different story. It recorded $912 million in outflows over the week.
Withdrawals occurred every day across several issuers, making it the largest source of weekly losses.
Even so, Ethereum inflows for the year remain high at $11.2 billion, suggesting there is still underlying support over the longer term.
Other assets report smaller changes as Solana continues its run of inflows, adding $16.1 million.
It has now seen 21 straight weeks of gains, with $1.26 billion for the year. XRP recorded $14.7 million in weekly inflows and stands at $1.22 billion so far this year.
Chainlink, Sui, and Cronos also add modest amounts, while Cardano and Litecoin show no growth.
Institutions Show Mixed Picture Across Regions
It is important to add that flows vary widely by region. The United States recorded $440 million of outflows, leading the weekly decline.
Germany posts inflows of $85.1 million, while Hong Kong adds $8.1 million. The data suggests confidence differs across markets, with Europe and Asia showing stronger interest than the US.
Breakdowns by provider also show contrasting results. iShares Bitcoin Trust in the US added $121.8 million, while ProShares ETFs recorded $126.1 million.

Conversely, Grayscale reported $131.4 million in outflows, and Bitwise saw $126 million leave.
ARK 21 Shares records $81.5 million in withdrawals, while CoinShares XBT Provider also posts losses.
Notably, digital asset investment products now manage $223.6 billion, with year-to-date inflows reaching $35.2 billion.
This is running 4.2% ahead of last year’s pace, showing that interest in the sector has not disappeared despite a weaker week.
