Cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp has surpassed its parent platform in daily trading volume. The popular Robinhood crypto trading platform recently acquired this exchange.
Bitstamp saw a 21% surge in trading volumes in August. It surged to $14.4 billion, as per the official report. This is even though crypto market trading volumes remained almost flat last month.
Bitstamp Helps to Offset Robinhood Crypto Decline
In early June 2025, Robinhood finalized its $200 million acquisition of crypto exchange Bitstamp. This acquisition brought along 5,000 institutional clients and 50,000 retail users. Dubbed as Bitstamp by Robinhood, the exchange now caters to the company’s push into real-world asset tokenization.
The integration links Bitstamp to Robinhood Legend and its Smart Exchange Routing system. Despite this expansion, Robinhood reported Thursday that its nominal crypto trading volumes fell 18% month-over-month in August. It dropped to $13.7 billion.
Trading activity on the Robinhood crypto trading platform has been downward since November 2024. The exchange saw a brief uptick in July but couldn’t sustain the momentum in August.

Combined crypto trading volumes across Bitstamp and Robinhood slipped 2.1% from the prior month. However, Robinhood’s total assets rose by 2% during the same period, reaching $304 billion. This includes approximately $41 million in Robinhood crypto holdings.
Robinhood Entry to the S&P 500 and New Developments
Last week, the Robinhood stock (NASDAQ: HOOD) entered the S&P 500. This was a milestone achievement for the company. As a result, will gain exposure to several ETFs that track the index.
However, some market analysts have shared valuation concerns for the HOOD stock. “This movement expands the index’s exposure and connection to the digital asset economy,” said Edwin Mata, CEO of the tokenization platform Brickken.
In addition, the trading platform is also making key developments in the crypto space. Robinhood introduced a tokenization-focused Layer 2 blockchain in early July for its European Union customer base. This enables access to U.S. equities.
The company also rolled out perpetual futures in the EU, offering eligible traders derivatives with up to 3x leverage. These trades will be routed through Bitstamp. It is the same exchange that Robinhood recently acquired for $200 million.
Crypto Market Braces for Strong Q4 After Mild August
The broader crypto market saw only a modest uptick in trading volumes in August, with prices closing the month broadly unchanged. Merkle Tree Capital’s CEO Ryan McMillin attributed the slowdown to seasonality.
He stressed the overall dip in crypto trading activity during the summer holiday. McMillin added that overall market sentiment remains subdued. Traders await clarity on whether softening jobs and inflation data will prompt a Federal Reserve rate cut.
“Trump has been pushing for lower rates while Jerome Powell has dug his heels in; now that looks to have changed,” McMillin said. Looking ahead, McMillin expects trading activity to rebound, with both predicting new crypto market highs before year-end.
Market analysts hope for a strong Q4 season following the expected Fed rate cut announcement. This will be a significant shift in the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy.
Historically, Q4 has always been strong for the crypto market, especially the year after Bitcoin halving. Market analysts are hopeful for a strong bull run for Bitcoin and altcoins during the last quarter of this year.
