Gemini Stock Falls Below IPO Price: Has Public Debut Hype Faded?

Gemini Space Station Inc. (GEMI), backed by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, closed at $24.53 on September 17, down 12.8% and below its $28 IPO price.

The crypto exchange stock had risen after its September 12 debut but has since fallen, showing how quickly the early excitement cooled.

Gemini Stock Falls After Strong Start

Gemini Space Station stock is now trading below its IPO price. On September 17, the stock closed at $24.53, a drop of 12.8% from the previous session.

The IPO was priced at $28, making this the first time the stock has fallen under that level since it began trading.

The company went public on September 12 and enjoyed a short rally. Investors pushed the price higher during the first days on Nasdaq, reflecting interest in the new listing.

That enthusiasm has now given way to losses, with the GEMI stock reversing course in less than a week.

Pre-market trading gave the stock some relief. Based on Yahoo Finance data, Shares increased by 2.1% to $25.05.

Even with that recovery, the stock remains below its initial offer price. Gemini’s market value now stands at about $2.9 billion.

The drop fits into a wider pattern seen across crypto-linked stocks. Coinbase ended the same day down 2.2% at $320.56.

Circle also declined, closing 2.8% lower at $131.04. These moves suggest that Gemini’s fall may not be limited to company-specific issues but could reflect broader market pressures.

Interest rate cut and its possible link

The sharp fall in Gemini shares came on the same day the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 25 basis points.

Markets reacted in different ways to the decision. The Nasdaq Composite ended down 0.33%, while the S&P 500 Index dropped 0.1%. However, by contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.57%.

Lower rates usually help risk assets by making borrowing cheaper and by pushing investors toward stocks.

For companies tied to cryptocurrency, the signal is less clear. Some investors view the cut as supportive, while others see it as a sign of weaker growth ahead.

Gemini’s stock may have been caught in this mixed reaction. The rate decision shaped overall sentiment, but it is uncertain whether it was the main reason for the drop.

What is clear is that the company’s shares struggled to hold above the IPO level in the new rate environment.

Gemini’s Fall Mirrors Sector Trend

It is worth mentioning that the decline in Gemini stock is not happening alone. Other companies tied to digital assets also closed lower, as shown earlier.

This shows that the pressure affects the whole sector, not just one firm. Investors appear cautious toward crypto-related stocks as a group.

It is important to add that Gemini is facing its own regulatory backdrop.

On September 15, court documents showed that Gemini Trust and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reached a “resolution in principle” to settle a dispute related to the Earn program.

The case related to the company’s past crypto lending program. A settlement may help reduce legal uncertainty but it has not lifted the stock so far.

The stock’s fast reversal highlights the challenge of sustaining momentum after a high-profile IPO.

The early excitement gave way to volatility, and the shares now face a test of investor confidence.

Whether Gemini can regain ground above its IPO price will depend on market conditions and sector sentiment in the weeks ahead.
