US CPI Data Release: What to Expect From Crypto Market

The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report will be released today at 8:30 a.m. ET. Inflation is expected to come in at 3.1%, higher than last month’s 2.9%.

Notably, the report is expected to influence the Federal Reserve’s rate decision next week and could move both traditional and crypto markets.

Inflation Report Takes the Spotlight

All eyes are on today’s US CPI data as traders wait to see how inflation moved in September.

The expected 3.1% figure suggests that prices may have gone up slightly from August’s 2.9%.

It is worth noting that this report is the first major economic update since the US government shutdown 22 days ago.

Analyst Ted Pillows said that the data will be crucial for the crypto market.

He explained that the Federal Reserve will pay close attention to the numbers ahead of its meeting next week.

Currently, traders see an 98% chance of a 25-basis-point rate cut, but that could change depending on the data.

A market participant Nathaniel said he expects a soft 3.0% print. He noted that anything higher could make investors doubt next week’s rate cut.

Ted responded that anything higher might test sentiment fast. The report’s outcome could indicate whether inflation is still rising or slowing.

If the CPI meets or exceeds 3.1%, the Federal Reserve may decide to proceed more cautiously with rate cuts.

However, if it comes in at 3.0% or lower, it could strengthen hopes for a cut and lift market confidence.

Traders Prepare for Big Swings in Crypto Market

The cryptocurrency market is on high alert as traders anticipate sharp price movements following the release of the CPI.

Max Crypto reminded traders that a lower-than-expected CPI will be bullish for Bitcoin and alts.

According to his post the report is due at 8:30 a.m. ET, or 7:00 p.m. in India.

Crypto analyst Kiran Gadakh said this CPI report is the most important economic data of the month.

As detailed, he expects CPI to come in at 3.1% year-on-year, with core CPI also at 3.1% and a 0.4% monthly rise.

He pointed out that recent tariffs under Trump’s trade policies may have pushed up the prices of goods, which could be reflected in today’s data.

Additionally, Gadakh warned that there could be massive volatility around 7 p.m. IST, with Bitcoin possibly moving by over $1,000 in minutes.

He advised traders to lower their leverage before the release and avoid trading during the first market reaction.

He also suggested waiting 30 to 60 minutes for a clearer trend before making new moves.

Many traders expect the CPI data to guide how Bitcoin and altcoins trade over the next few days.

A cooler inflation figure could lift the crypto market, while a higher reading might cause a quick pullback.

What the Data Means for the Weeks Ahead

The CPI result will also play a big role in shaping expectations ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting on October 29.

A reading below 3.1% could support the case for a rate cut and push Bitcoin higher. However, if inflation persists, the Fed may hold off on future rate cuts.

Analysts say this report will set the tone for how traders position themselves as the month comes to a close.

The market already sees a 98.9% chance of a rate cut, but that confidence could wane if the data indicates inflation is heating up.

For now, both investors and crypto traders are waiting for one number that could decide short-term direction.

Notably, the US CPI data has become the most-watched event of the week, and whatever it shows will likely move Bitcoin, altcoins, and even the stock market in the hours that follow.
