- Hawkish Fed tone pressures crypto and risk asset markets.
Fed rate cut expections sharply drop to 14% in July according to recent Polymarket data, as investors turned against the idea. This dramatic drop in confidence follows prior speculation over a possible reduction amid weaker price indicators in the latest (CPI) data.
The figures mark a wider move away from market assumptions. It implies that traders and institutions no longer see a July rate reduction as probable despite economic data starting to ease.
Fed Rate Cut Bets Collapsed on Polymarket
On June 28, Polymarket traders priced in a 14% chance of a Fed rate cut at the next FOMC meeting. Just weeks earlier, expectations hovered around 30–40%. The drop suggested that both institutional and retail participants adjusted their outlooks in response to the Fed’s commentary.

Polymarket, known for its on-chain prediction markets, reflected the shift in market psychology. While inflation indicators improved, most traders believed the Fed would hold rates steady in July.
Fed officials had reiterated that they needed consistent data before changing policy. This stance appeared to align with the sharp decline in rate cut expectations.
CPI Data Sparks Rumours But Not Confidence
As the latest report of CPI reported a slight decline in consumer inflation. Although this increased the hopes of some analysts that the Fed would look dovish in its posture, it has not seen a significant shift in tone.
It is true that inflation is heading in the right direction, although not at an adequate level that the Fed should rush to make a decision. What is spreading among many economists is that the central bank might not think about a policy change until at least September, unless economic indicators begin to plummet suddenly.
Economist Janet Rowe of Atlantic Macro said, “The Fed is under no hurry to move. A single softer inflation data will not allow a reduction in the rate. They want/seek out consistency.”
Traders Are Responding to Hawkish Remarks by Fed Officials
Various governors and presidents of the Federal Reserve banks have sent warning signs in recent weeks. Others have even recommended that an increase in rates is not completely out of the question should inflation resume.
This conservative communication has lowered the hopes of investors and strengthened the notion that the Fed is ready to remain elevated longer. The changes can be seen not only on Polymarket but also in legacy futures forms such as the FedWatch Tool on CME that also displays lower probabilities of an imminent rate cut.

What This Means for Markets and Crypto
This effect could drag on risk assets, such as tech shares and crypto, as the dwindling chances of a rate decision in July drag. The latest example also includes Bitcoin and Ethereum, which have been in a range over the past days due to a lack of Fed signals, analysts say.
An extended period of high interest rates can also boost the U.S dollar against the foreign currencies and world commodities. To crypto investors, it may mean more volatility in the face of the persistence of macro economic uncertainty.
Nevertheless, a few market analysts feel that the Fed is near hitting the policy limit. And in a slowing inflation could make more rate cuts possible in the autumn or early winter.
