US Dollar Index Hits 4-Year Low, Bitcoin Rally on Horizon

The US Dollar Index has just hit a four-year low, with US President Donald Trump still thinking “it’s doing great.” As the purchasing power of the USD erodes, precious metals like Gold and Silver are enjoying an unprecedented bull run.

Experts see the falling USD as a boost for risk-on assets. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market could benefit.

What Does the Weakening US Dollar Index Tell?

The US dollar has weakened sharply over the past year, falling nearly 13% so far. As a result, the US Dollar Index is now trading at levels last seen in March 2022.

The decline coincided with a rally in precious metals. Silver surged about 267%. Gold rose nearly 84% over the same period.

On the other hand, precious metals like Gold are rallying hard. The yellow metal is already up above $5,100, gaining more than 19% in 2026 so far. In the last 27 trading days, Gold has added $5.7 trillion, which is three times more than Bitcoin’s market cap.

Central banks are rapidly selling U.S. dollar bonds. The Japanese Yen is strengthening. These moves are weakening the global reserve currency. The dollar is losing strength in global markets.

Data shows that the US Dollar Index has broken its 15-year uptrend, and could be preparing for a crash ahead.

Does Donald Trump Want A Weak US Dollar?

As said, the US Dollar Index has dropped in double digits over the past year. This marks its weakest annual performance since 2017. The commentary noted that Donald Trump addressed the dollar’s decline publicly for the first time. He said, “The value of the Dollar is great.”

Shortly after the remarks, the dollar fell a further 1%, sliding to its lowest level in four years. Researchers at The Kobeissi Letter highlighted President Trump’s latest remarks. They show the US may accept a weak dollar. This will help to push interest rates lower and even provide a boost to US exports.

Furthermore, a lot could happen on the macro scale with the US Fed’s intervention in Japan’s bond market. Veteran investor Arthur Hayes predicted a structural stress in Japan’s financial system. He pointed out the simultaneous weakening of the Japanese Yen (JPY) and the rise of Japan’s government bond (JGB).

Hayes said the situation could eventually force intervention by the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve. He added that such an intervention would amount to a liquidity injection.

This could help ease pressure on US Treasury yields. According to Hayes, such a response from the US Fed could provide short-term support for risk assets, including Bitcoin.

Draper Sees Falling Dollar as Catalyst for Bitcoin’s Long-Term Rally

The US Dollar Index has dropped to a four-year low. Analysts warn this could affect global liquidity. They also see broader risks for global assets. Billionaire investor Tim Draper said a weaker dollar historically creates room for capital to rotate into higher-risk assets.

Draper observed that sharp drops in the dollar index often preceded expanding global liquidity. He noted these periods also triggered strong rallies in the crypto market.

He argued that, despite current uncertainty, the combination of a falling dollar and rising Bitcoin has been a recurring pattern.

Draper added that if those trends continue to align, Bitcoin’s upside could extend well beyond current levels. He reiterated his long-held view that a $250,000 Bitcoin price would represent a milestone rather than an endpoint.
