Circle Stock Price Forecast as Revenue & USDC Growth Decelerates

Circle stock has moved sideways in the past two months. While the stock jumped modestly after its earnings last week, it remains inside a narrow range.

It was trading at $66.67, much lower than the all-time high of $300. This article explores what to expect amid signs that its revenue growth is decelerating.

Circle Stock is Facing Headwinds as Revenue Growth Slows

Circle Internet Group published its results last week, which showed that its revenue growth is slowing.

This slowdown is notable considering that it is the second biggest company in the stablecoin industry after Tether. It is also in an industry that many analysts believe will continue growing over time.

The results revealed that its revenue grew by just 7% in the second quarter to $701 million. Excluding the distribution costs that it pays companies like Coinbase, the company made $289 million. As a result, the net income came in at just $48 million.

There are signs that the company’s slowdown will continue slowing in the coming months. Unlike other companies, Circle’s growth is easy to predict because of its business model.

Its business involves offering stablecoins, which anyone can hold, and then investing these assets into short-term government bonds. As such, the business thrives when interest rates and stablecoin assets are doing well.

Circle noted that the amount of USDC in circulation stood at $73 billion as the quarter ended. CoinMarketCap data shows that the figure has now dropped to $72 billion, down from near $80 billion earlier this year. While Circle offers other assets, like EURC, USDC is usually its most important asset.

US Bond Yields Have Pulled Back This Month

There are signs that US bond yields are falling, with the two-year falling to 4.22% from the year-to-date high of 4.37%. Also, the one-year yield has dropped to 4.02% from a high of 4.14%. Technicals suggest that it has formed a bearish divergence pattern, pointing to a reversal.

US bond yields dropped further after the US published its July nonfarm payrolls (NFP) data. This report showed that the economy lost 23,000 jobs, significantly missing what analysts were expecting. Also, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.2%, a sign that many people have stopped looking for jobs.

There is a likelihood that the upcoming US consumer inflation report will show that prices dropped in July. Such a move will lower the possibility of the Federal Reserve hiking interest rates later this year.

Meanwhile, Circle stock reacted to the upcoming Arc Layer 1 launch in September this year. The management noted that it had already reached over 100 partners. That includes companies like Mastercard, Galaxy Digital, SBI Group, and Visa. It has already carried out over 502 million transactions and accumulated 2.8 million wallets in its testnet.

Circle is positioning Arc as the leading chain for stablecoin payments, a move that it hopes will disrupt other chains like Ethereum and Tron.

Still, history shows that it is hard to break into the layer-1 and layer-2 industries. For example, chains like Kraken’s Ink and Uniswap’s Unichain have failed to gain market share.

The daily chart shows that the CRCL stock has moved sideways in the past few months. It has remained inside the narrow range of between $58 and $73 since June this year. This consolidation is mostly because it is forming a bearish flag pattern.

The stock has failed to move below the 50-day and 100-day moving averages, a sign that bulls are yet to prevail.

As such, these technicals suggest that the stock will have a bearish breakout in the near term. If this happens, the next key target to watch will be at $50. This explains why analysts are slashing their CRCL forecast.
