Chainlink (LINK) price is facing growing technical and derivatives pressure as it approaches a critical support zone. The asset’s on-chain and futures data now raise concerns about a possible deeper decline toward $8.
Chainlink Price Approaches $12.30 Channel Support Level
Analyst Ali Martinez pointed out that Chainlink price is trading close to the lower boundary of its long-term ascending channel. The $12.30 level mark is a key technical support.

Historically, this level has served as a turning point, where bullish momentum often attempts to stabilize LINK price movements. According to the analysis, a breakdown below this support would expose top altcoin to further downside risk, with $8 identified as the next level of interest.
On the weekly chart, the asset showed weakening momentum as price action edged downward within the ascending structure. The bearish pressure is supported by a rejection near the midline of the channel earlier in May. The current move suggested that buyers are struggling to regain control. If this lower trendline fails to hold, it may confirm a channel breakdown, which could accelerate selling pressure.
Futures Activity Shows Reduced Trader Engagement
More so, derivatives market activity has declined sharply in recent sessions. According to Coinglass data, Chainlink futures volume dropped by 20.21% to $1.03 billion, while open interest fell by 7.74% to $589.25 million. These figures indicate that fewer traders are maintaining positions, which may reflect waning interest or rising caution.

Additionally, Long/short account ratios on platforms such as Binance and OKX still favor longs, with Binance showing a ratio of 2.7064. However, the overall 24-hour long/short ratio across all platforms stands at 0.9357, suggesting more short positions are being opened relative to longs on a broader scale. This shift indicated a more defensive posture among market participants, particularly in the face of ongoing price weakness.
Chainlink Bearish Liquidations and Funding Rate Shift
Moreover, liquidation data further supported the view of increased bearish sentiment. Over the past 24 hours, short positions accounted for $69.47K in liquidations, surpassing the $6.96 million in long liquidations. While earlier periods saw larger long liquidations, the more recent liquidation of short positions reflects the volatile nature of the current trading range.

At the same time, Chainlink’s OI-weighted funding rate has turned negative, a move that generally signals traders are paying a premium to hold short positions. This funding shift coincided with LINK price decline below $14 and suggests that market sentiment has turned decisively cautious. Periods of sustained negative funding typically align with downside price pressure or expectations of further weakness.
Whale Transfer Amid Rising Bearish Momentum
Conversely, a recent whale transfer involving 1.78 million LINK tokens worth over $25.5 million from BitGet to an unknown wallet suggests a potential accumulation move. Such large outflows from exchanges are often interpreted as a signal of long-term holding intentions.

Additionally, this transaction occurred amid rising bearish sentiment and declining market activity, adding a layer of complexity to short-term price expectations. While technical indicators point to downside risk, whale behavior could indicate confidence in Chainlink long-term value or preparation for strategic positioning.
At the time of writing, Chainlink price traded at $13.83, down 5.12% in 24 hours. Price declined from $14.52, forming lower highs and lows intraday. Weak volume and bearish momentum suggest sellers remain in control unless $14 is reclaimed.
