Ethereum Up 37% In Q2, Poised For Strongest Quarter Since 2020

Key Insights

  • Ethereum daily transactions average 1.4M, signaling growing network usage and adoption.
  • ETH ETFs record over $70M in daily net inflows, boosting institutional exposure.
  • Q2 2025 sees Ethereum‘s highest quarterly gain since 2020, outperforming Bitcoin.

In Q2 2025, Ethereum has gained 37.51%. It is ETH’s best quarterly return since 2020, outperforming Bitcoin. Rising transaction volumes and strong ETF inflows are driving ETH to once again dominate DeFi and institutional markets.

Ethereum Outperforms in Q2 as Transactions Reach 1.4 Million Daily

The price of Ethereum in Q2 2025 indicates that there is a strong foundation on the blockchain. The average daily transactions on Ethereum were 1.4 million, according to a 7-day moving average.

It represents the most consistent level of activity in the past year, indicating that more people, both retail and institutional, are using crypto.

Since mid-2024, network usage has steadily increased, with each dip being followed by stronger rebounds.

It’s not only about speculation; this rise in activity means more smart contracts are being used, more stablecoins are moving, and dApps are being employed. For this reason, Ethereum is again at the forefront of building the decentralized internet.

At the same time, the token leads the way in DeFi, with a total value locked (TVL) of over $63.3 billion across its mainnet and Layer 2 platforms. Most of the Layer 2 market is controlled by Ethereum, and networks like Base, Arbitrum, and Optimism are growing their presence on Ethereum.

Institutional Inflows via Spot ETFs Boost ETH Momentum

Spot ETH ETFs have experienced a rise in demand. They attracted $70 million in daily net inflows, and their total assets are now worth $9.45 billion.

Mostly, the rise in capital is due to institutions wanting to invest in ETH under regulated conditions.

Major asset managers have a significant amount of ETH in their portfolios. For example, BlackRock has accumulated 1.38 million ETH, which is worth about $3 billion, and this accounts for 38.2% of the market share among Ethereum ETF issuers.

Grayscale, Fidelity, and Bitwise have also bought more Bitcoin recently.

The bullish trend is supported by rumors that BlackRock is urging the SEC to allow an Ethereum staking ETF. If the approval goes through, the token would start being seen as a yield-bearing asset in traditional markets.

It could attract a lot of new capital, as investors can now access both ETH and staking rewards through one product.

Technical Signals Suggest Ethereum Could Extend the Uptrend

On the other hand, after trading between $2,400 and $2,700, ETH is now trying to break out above $2,600. Positive trends could push ETH toward $3,000.

Ethereum is also being supported by key exponential moving averages (EMAs), as shown by momentum indicators. It follows a broader bullish reversal from the early 2025 downtrend.

Meanwhile, large traders and institutional wallets are keeping up strong long positions. One whale wallet currently owns $272 million in ETH and BTC longs. There is no evidence of selling, which means people are still confident about Ethereum’s future.

The strong results for Ethereum in the last quarter are also reflected in its past returns. According to CoinGlass, the 37.51% ETH gain in Q2 is the highest since the 69.62% gain in 2020. Bitcoin gained +25.76% this quarter, but Ethereum was the top performer with a much higher increase.

Besides DeFi and speculation, the cryptocurrency is being used for more and more purposes. Because of more Layer 2 solutions, new investment tools and increased developer support, Ethereum is becoming the leading smart contract platform.
