Japan’s Bitcoin treasury firm expands holdings to 13,350 BTC after latest zero-interest bond issuance
Metaplanet Inc. has acquired 1,005 Bitcoin (BTC) for $108.1 million, funded entirely through the issuance of zero-interest ordinary bonds worth 30 billion Japanese yen (approximately $190 million).
The company disclosed the transaction in a June 30 statement following a board resolution to issue its 19th Series of Ordinary Bonds. The entire issuance was allotted to EVO FUND. Proceeds were allocated partly to a bond buyback and cancellation, with the rest used to purchase BTC.
Metaplanet 0% Bonds, Full BTC Allocation
The newly issued bonds carry no interest and are unsecured. Each bond has a face value of 750 million yen and is scheduled for full redemption on Dec. 29, 2025. Early redemption remains optional if funds from certain stock rights exceed thresholds.

Metaplanet stated that the issuance qualifies under Article 702 of the Companies Act and does not require the appointment of a bond administrator. Payment and interest handling will be conducted directly by the company from its Tokyo headquarters in Roppongi.
“Metaplanet Issues 30 Billion JPY in 0% Ordinary Bonds to Purchase Additional $BTC,” the company confirmed via X.
The move expands Metaplanet’s BTC treasury to 13,350 BTC. The firm has not disclosed the average acquisition price for the new tranche.
Bond Buyback Targets Secured, Interest-Bearing Debt
Alongside the new bond issuance, Metaplanet executed a full buyback and cancellation of its 3rd Series of Ordinary Bonds, originally issued in Nov. 2024. That series totaled 1.75 billion yen, carried an interest rate of 0.36% per annum, and was secured by a mortgage on Hotel Royal Oak Gotanda via the firm’s subsidiary Wen Tokyo K.K.
The company described the new bonds as a refinancing mechanism, swapping secured, interest-bearing debt for unsecured, zero-interest bonds.
In the notice, Metaplanet emphasized that the bondholder EVO FUND agreed to the terms.
“The Company has agreed to refinance the 3rd Bonds…with the New Bonds, which are non-interest-bearing and unsecured,” the filing stated.
Public Market Reacts to Bitcoin Commitment
Market participants quickly picked up the story, framing it within Metaplanet’s broader strategy to become Japan’s Bitcoin-first treasury entity.
“JUST IN: Metaplanet has acquired 1,005 bitcoin for $108.1 million dollars,” said @TheBTCTherapist in a post on X, highlighting the growing size of the firm’s BTC reserves.

Metaplanet’s stock (TYO: 3350) closed the day up 9.46% at 1,631 yen, according to public data, as the news triggered investor attention.
A community post from @DogeSpaceXX connected the development to broader sentiment. The user called Metaplanet “Japan’s only publicly listed Bitcoin treasury company” and tied its goal to acquiring 210,000 BTC by 2027 — equivalent to 1% of the total Bitcoin supply.

Metaplanet has not formally confirmed that target, but its rapid accumulation pace places it among Asia’s fastest-growing institutional Bitcoin holders.
The company stated that the bond issuance and BTC purchase will likely have only a minimal impact on its consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending Dec. 2025.
It also pledged to promptly disclose any updates regarding valuation, treasury performance, or bond redemption.
