Ethereum has been leading the broader altcoin market rally, sparking expectations of a potential altcoin season ahead. Along with ETH’s 20% weekly gains, most altcoins like SOL, DOGE, HYPE, have also clocked double-digit gains on the weekly chart. With ETH price soaring to new 2025 highs at $4,300, analysts are now speculating whether it will have a ripple effect across the broader crypto market.
Calls for Altcoin Season Grow Amid ETH Price Rally
With the ETH price breakout past $4,000 over the past week, bulls are in absolute control at the moment. Other altcoins also showed strength during the same period.
Crypto trader Merlijn The Trader has suggested that an altcoin season may already be underway. He noted that similar market conditions in 2019 and 2020 offered “life-changing” entry opportunities.
According to him, Bitcoin dominance is declining while altcoin market dominance is consolidating. He noted that the overall altcoin market is in a strong accumulation phase, per the AltSeason index.

During the next altcoin season, crypto analyst Merlijn The Trader expects a tenfold surge in altcoins. He added that a similar market setup in 2021 led to a parabolic rally. In a bold prediction, the analyst noted that the altcoin market could target $7.66 trillion in 2025, stating that momentum is building and warning that late entrants risk buying at peak levels.
As of now, the broader crypto market cap is around $4.0 billion. Thus, it shows that the analyst expects it to literally double from here.
Altcoin Season Will Come With Its Share of Volatility
Crypto analyst Michael van de Poppe expects heightened market volatility in the coming week, impacting both Bitcoin and altcoins. He predicts Bitcoin could reach $120,000 before undergoing a correction that may trigger a sharp decline in altcoin prices. Earlier today, the BTC price surged all the way closer to its all-time highs of $123,000, sparking speculation of a further rally ahead.

Van de Poppe noted Ethereum’s recent strength but anticipates it will stall, potentially setting the stage for a broad altcoin rally, and an altcoin season. In his message on the X platform, Poppe noted:
There’s still so much upside to come that it’s irrational to think this cycle is going to be over in 3 months. Altcoins and $ETH have barely shown some upside on the markets. I assume we’ll see altcoins run by 200-500% in the coming 3 months. All-in altcoins.
Crypto analyst Michael van de Poppe noted that the altcoin market capitalization has completed another support-resistance flip, signaling potential strength ahead. He expects a period of consolidation before a possible breakout to new highs, with the next target projected at $1.5 trillion.
