Key Insights:
- Solana’s price could be on the verge of a strong bullish breakout due to its all-time high.
- The SEC will likely approve multiple spot SOL ETFs in October.
- Solana will likely surge ahead of the upcoming Alpenglow upgrade.
Solana price continued its strong rally and tested the important resistance level at $225 for the first time since February this year. SOL token has now rebounded by ~140% from the year-to-date low. Besides, numerous catalysts may soon propel it to its all-time high.
SOL ETF Approvals to Boost Solana Price
One of the main themes on Wall Street is the robust demand for cryptocurrencies. Many investors are seeing crypto as a highly liquid alternative asset.
The spot Bitcoin ETFS have added over $54 billion in inflows since their inception in January last year. These funds now hold over $147 billion in assets, equivalent to 6.53% of the total Bitcoin market capitalization.
Similarly, Ethereum ETFs have added over $12.8 billion in inflows since their launch in the third quarter of last year. They now hold over $27.7 billion in assets, which is about 5.3% of the total market capitalization.
Most importantly, the recently launched Solana staking ETF has continued to gain traction among investors, with the total inflows jumping to over $200 million. Therefore, these numbers provide early signals that the spot Solana ETFs will become popular among investors once approved.
The SEC has received numerous SOL ETF proposals, with the final deadline of most of them being in October. When this deadline comes, the agency will either approve or reject and not postpone again. The probability that these ETFs will be approved remains above 80%.
In most cases, investors buy assets before a major event and then sell the news when it happens. Therefore, the Solana price will likely keep rising this month as anticipation of the approval builds.
Alpenglow Upgrade to be a SOL Catalyst
Cryptocurrencies tend to rally ahead of a major upgrade. In Solana’s case, the catalyst for the surge will be the upcoming Alpenglow upgrade. It can probably take place in the first quarter of next year.
Alpenglow is one of the biggest upgrades in Solana’s history, as it will drastically change the blockchain’s architecture. The most notable change is the move from the proof-of-authority to proof-of-stake.
Also, the network will improve its performance by boosting the maximum throughput to over 107,000 transactions per second. It is important since Solana handles the most transactions in the crypto industry.
Nansen data shows that Solana handled over 421 million transactions in the last 7 days. That’s much higher than the BNB Chain, which processed 84 million transactions.
Federal Reserve Interest Rate Cuts and Solana Meme Coin Boom
The other important catalyst that may push the SOL price higher is the upcoming Federal Reserve interest rate cuts. The odds of these cuts have jumped in the past few weeks after the US released weak jobs numbers, with the unemployment rate continuing to rise.
Solana stands to benefit from these cuts because of its growing market share in the meme coin industry. Historically, meme coins surge in periods of low interest rates. If this happens, it could lead to more activity in the Solana ecosystem, boosting its price in the long term.
Solana Price Chart Analysis Points to More Gains
The daily timeframe chart shows that the Solana price rally is gaining momentum, with the Average Directional Index (ADX) rising to 40. An ADX number of 20 and above sends a signal that the trend is strengthening.
SOL price formed a golden cross pattern as the 50-day and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) crossed each other. It has remained above these moving averages since August.
Solana coin also has a long way to go to reach the extreme overshoot level of $280. That’s about 25% above the current level and a few points below the all-time high of $295.

The only technical risk that SOL price faces is that it has formed a rising wedge pattern, which is a common bearish reversal sign.
