Nvidia stock price has slumped in the past few months, mirroring the performance of other top semiconductor companies. It has moved into a correction after falling by over 14% from its highest point this year. One of the main risks facing the company is the rising competition and price wars that may hit Anthropic and OpenAI, two companies it has invested heavily in.
AI Price Wars May Impact OpenAI and Anthropic
Nvidia has become one of the most successful companies in the artificial intelligence industry, thanks to the large market share of its GPUs. These products have become the most sought-after by American, European, and Chinese companies.
Its strong revenue growth has pushed it to invest huge sums of money in companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, a move that some investors have criticized as being part of circular financing.
The challenge, however, is that there are signs that these companies are now facing stiffer competition than initially thought. Chinese companies like Alibaba, DeepSeek, and Moonshot have all launched models that are both competitive and cheaper than their American counterparts.
A good example of this is DeepSeek, which launched V4 Flash model last week. This model performs close to the levels of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 and costs just 28 cents for the same output that costs $25 on Opus 4.8. This means that it is operating at a 99% discount, while offering a similar service. Indeed, data compiled by Arena shows that it has the best performance-per-dollar of any model.

The same is happening with Moonshot’s Kimi, which has the biggest context window of 1.05 million. Its performance is largely similar or better than that offered by America’s ChatGPT and Claude.
As a result, there are signs that the new Chinese models, together with other open models, is having a real impact on the companies that Nvidia has invested in. OpenAI has slashed the price of GPT-5.6 Luna, its fastest model for high-volume tasks, by 80%.
The company has also reportedly delayed its IPO to next year as it works to turn around its business.
Nvidia Has More Challenges and Opportunities
Nvidia stock has also come under pressure as competition from other companies has jumped. For example, Amazon completed its $50 billion investment in OpenAI last week. One of the conditions for this investment is that OpenAI will use Amazon’s Tranium chips.
Similarly, AMD invested $5 billion in Anthropic, a move that will push the tech company to use its chips.
Despite all this, Nvidia has some notable catalysts. For one, reports suggest that Chinese companies like Moonshot and DeepSeek are using Nvidia GPUs. This usage will continue now that Nvidia is selling its H200 chips in China.
The company also expects to continue growing its business in the near term. Analysts believe that its annual revenue will grow to nearly $400 billion this year. Its profit margins are also expected to continue growing as semiconductor prices remain elevated.
Nvidia Stock Price Technical Analysis

Another bullish aspect is that the stock has formed a giant bullish flag pattern on the daily chart. This pattern is made up of a vertical line and a descending channel. It is now in the descending channel.
The stock has also moved above the 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), a sign that the uptrend remains intact. Therefore, the stock will likely have a strong bullish breakout in the near term, potentially to the year-to-date high of $236. If this happens, it will raise the possibility of the stock jumping to $250 this year.
