Ethereum Exchange Reserves Dwindle, Whale Accumulation Signals Bullishness
  • Ethereum exchange reserves remain at historically low levels, suggesting limited supply.
  • Recent emergence of 13 mega-whale addresses holding 10,000 ETH each indicates institutional interest.
  • Analysts are optimistic about a potential price recovery as selling pressure eases.

In 2025, Ethereum exchange reserves remain at historically low levels. These diminished reserves suggest a limited supply of Ethereum available on spot exchanges, which could lead to upward pressure on price of ETH in future.

Amid this optimistic market sentiment, whales are making their presence felt, positively influencing ETH prices. In the last 24 hours, a new cluster of 13 addresses, each holding at least 10,000 ETH, has emerged. This development indicates a growing interest from institutions and whales alike.

Such an increase in investment accumulation often signals that exchange reserves may soon experience a significant reduction in supply. As these large holders continue to accumulate, the potential for ETH price appreciation becomes more pronounced.

Ethereum’s Historical Trend of Spot Exchange Reserves

A long-term analysis by an analyst at CryptoQuant reveals interesting insights into Ethereum’s total reserves on spot exchanges and their correlation with price movements. The data highlights significant trends over the years.

During the 2017-2018 bull run, Ethereum reserves increased notably, peaking in early 2018. This surge was indicative of the market’s enthusiasm at the time.

Similarly, the 2020-2021 period saw the “DeFi Effect,” where the rapid expansion of the DeFi ecosystem and growing interest in Ethereum-based projects led to a substantial rise in reserves.

However, later on a sharp decline followed in late 2021 and early 2022, marked by significant withdrawals from exchanges. This trend continued into 2023, with Ethereum exchange reserves dropping to historically low levels.

These low levels have persisted since 2024, signaling a potential supply shortage in the market. From the chart, the relationship between exchange reserves and price movements is very insightful.

As this relationship suggests that the decline in reserves indicates a preference among market participants to withdraw their Ethereum holdings for long-term storage.

Also, as reserves decreased from 2022 onward, Ethereum price began to trade at higher levels, indicating that low reserve levels could exert upward pressure on prices.

From 2024 and beyond so far, Ethereum reserves remain at these bottom levels, reflecting a limited supply on exchanges. This situation is likely to trigger a new upward trend in Ethereum price in the near future.

Mega Whale Address Count are Accumulating Ethereum

Moreover, since late December, Ethereum has experienced significant selling pressure, losing over 25% of its value during this period. This prolonged downturn has tested investor confidence, but recent price movements suggest that the bearish phase may be coming to an end.

Analysts are beginning to express optimism about a potential reversal and recovery, as Ethereum shows signs of stabilizing. Top crypto analyst Ali Martinez has pointed to compelling data that supports this bullish outlook.

Notably, the emergence of 13 new mega-whale addresses, each holding at least 10,000 ETH, marks a significant development on the blockchain.

After a lengthy decline, the blue line tracking these large addresses is now showing clear signs of growth.

This data indicates that major institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals are driving this market entry. This suggests an upward price movement for Ethereum may come in future sessions.

Current market data reveals that institutional whales view Ethereum’s trading prices as an attractive accumulation opportunity. At present levels, Ethereum appears to be establishing a solid support base.

This accumulation by mega whales aligns with the broader market sentiment that ETH is on the verge of a bullish phase, especially as selling pressure begins to ease.

Overall, if Ethereum can maintain its position and reclaim key resistance levels, the next upward movement could signal the start of a strong recovery and sustained bullish momentum in the coming months.
