- BlackRock’s Bitcoin-to-Ethereum shift marks a significant institutional rotation.
According to analyst Gert van Lagen, Bitcoin dominance in the market has shown signs of weakness. Significant shifts in market trends and institutional activity have suggested a changing landscape.
Bitcoin was trading at $105,347 at press time, showing a modest 0.06% increase over the last 24 hours. With a 24-hour trading volume of $45.79 Billion, Bitcoin has exhibited notable volatility, fluctuating below $106,000.
Bitcoin’s stability is evident despite these fluctuations. Analysts are closely monitoring market dynamics, especially Bitcoin dominance over other cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin Dominance Faces Bearish Divergence
Bitcoin dominance has recently displayed a bearish divergence pattern. It sparked concerns over its continued market leadership.
Analyst Gert van Lagen highlights that the cryptocurrency’s dominance has repeatedly faced rejection at the apex of the rising wedge. This level serves as a key technical resistance point.

Bitcoin dominance has been rejected after two failed attempts to break through resistance. This indicates a weakening market strength. Bitcoin may be approaching its peak.
This bearish divergence is further compounded by the Relative Strength Index (RSI), which failed to follow Bitcoin’s upward trajectory. The lack of alignment between the RSI and Bitcoin’s price action indicates weakening momentum for Bitcoin dominance.
Consequently, the analyst anticipates that altcoins could begin to outperform, as Bitcoin’s relative strength weakens. This signaled a shift in market attention.
Whale Activity Fuels Ethereum’s Bullish Sentiment
Ethereum has attracted significant interest from institutional investors. Recent on-chain data showed a massive $283 Million purchase of ETH. According to Wu Blockchain and Lookonchain, a whale acquired 108,278 ETH. This transaction was conducted through an Over-The-Counter (OTC) deal.
In the preceding 12 hours, Galaxy Digital’s OTC wallet withdrew 89,000 ETH valued at $233.5 Million from exchanges. After the purchase, the entire amount was transferred to the whale’s wallet. The wallet now holds 139,476 ETH, valued at $365 Million.
A large institutional buyer’s Ethereum acquisition signals growing confidence in the asset. This strengthens its bullish outlook. Analysts have noted that such large-scale OTC transactions typically signal upcoming price movements.
These transactions often precede upward momentum in the market. Institutional investors are acquiring more Ethereum. This aligns with the growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency.
Institutional Rotation from Bitcoin to Ethereum
A major institutional shift was also observed withBlackRock, impacting Bitcoin dominance. It recently reallocated a significant portion of its portfolio from Bitcoin to Ethereum.
Over the past two days, BlackRock sold $561 Million worth of Bitcoin and invested $118.6 million into Ethereum. This move marks a notable change in the firm’s strategy, as BlackRock has not sold Ethereum assets since May 7.
Junaid Dar, an analyst following the move, suggests that this shift may signal the onset of an altcoin season. The decision by BlackRock to move capital from Bitcoin to Ethereum highlights the growing institutional belief in Ethereum’s potential.
This shift reflects the broader market sentiment. Analysts predict that the price of Ethereum could rise with increased capital inflows.
Dar highlighted that a major institutional player’s asset reallocation could begin a broader market shift. This change may lead to a new wave of altcoin dominance.
Ethereum’s Bullish Momentum Boosted by Rising OI and Price Peaks
Ethereum price movements and Open Interest (OI)-Weighted data from March to June 2025 showed positive momentum. ETH has shown a steady upward trajectory from mid-April to early June, with significant peaks in early June.

Open Interest fluctuates, reflecting increased market activity, with sharp spikes indicating rising trader involvement. The noticeable rise in OI after mid-May suggests a surge in leveraged positions, a key indicator of potential volatility.
Given the rising OI and the price action, Ethereum is poised for potential growth. However, it must maintain support levels to avoid significant pullbacks.
