Key Insights:
- Japanese firm Gumi is committing over $17 million to its proposed XRP reserve.
- Peter Brandt has forecasted a bearish outlook for the XRP price moving forward.
- XRP price has declined to $2.8, but analysts set targets as high as $4.5 in hopes of a turnaround.
Legendary trader Peter Brandt has shared bearish sentiments on the price movement of XRP, the Ripple-backed coin. Gumi Inc., a Japanese gaming and blockchain company, announced plans to buy around ¥2.5 billion worth of XRP.
This move signals their growing interest in cryptocurrency investments. His comments came shortly after the announcement, possibly in response to it. On the daily charts, the price of XRP has slowed momentum amid a broader market trend.
Gumi Bets Big on XRP
Gumi has announced its plans to launch a digital asset treasury, solely focused on XRP accumulation. To kickstart the treasury, the Japanese gaming giant has resolved to purchase XRP worth 2.5 billion yen (about $17,027,131).
This move aligns with broader trends in corporate adoption of XRP in Asia. Gumi said the XRP treasury is part of its growth strategy for scaling its blockchain business.

The firm highlighted the leading role XRP plays in the international remittance and liquidity network strategy primarily promoted by SBI Holdings. Ripple already has a longstanding relationship with SBI Holdings of Japan.
Both recently signed a memorandum of understanding to increase stablecoin adoption in Japan. Therefore, Gumi aims to participate directly in cross-border payments and expand its financial services.
The Japanese gamer plans to execute the XRP acquisition gradually over five months, from September 2025 to February 2026. This phased approach will allow Gumi to mitigate risks from short-term price fluctuations.
The firm can also incorporate XRP into its financial operations during this period. Gumi views XRP as a core asset for expanding its blockchain operations. This happened as the firm already holds Bitcoin (BTC) in its balance sheet.
Gumi acquired 1 billion yen (about $6.7 million) of BTC earlier this year. These were staked on the Babylon protocol for yield generation. According to the latest announcement, XRP will form the second pillar of Gumi’s “dual-asset strategy” alongside BTC.
Peter Brandt’s Take on XRP Price Outlook
The Gumi announcement comes amid a potential bearish outlook for XRP. In an X post, crypto trader Peter Brandt shared an XRP chart from TradeNavigator. According to Brandt, the chart of XRP is potentially very negative.

The chart shows price action from approximately May to late August 2025. It depicts a multi-month uptrend from around $1.87 in June. It peaked near $2.39 in mid-July, then $2.7, followed by a sharp reversal.
Recent candles show consolidation between $2.80 and $3.02. However, investor buyer interest is gradually resuming, with the trading volume surging by 6.9%. If this momentum continues, it could spark price recovery for XRP.
XRP Price Analysis and Projection
XRP price has faced headwinds from SEC litigation remnants, competition from stablecoins, and BTC/ETH dominance. Since the U.S. election boost, XRP has flip-flopped several times. The Ripple-backed coin has dipped to as low as $1.79 and risen to $3.56.
At press time, XRP price was traded at $2.8, down 4.9% over the previous day. If the $2.80 support fails, XRP could drop to $2 or below, testing the 2024 low.
Meanwhile, crypto analyst Egrag Crypto highlighted $3.3 as the key price to monitor. The analyst claimed a monthly stick candle above $3.30 will signal the start of a big rally.
In a more bullish forecast, analyst Solberg Invest expects the XRP price to reach $4.50 this cycle. The analyst predicted an accumulation period that mirrors earlier XRP bull runs.
Other factors that add to the optimism include utility boosts and whale accumulation. For instance, BlackRock is reportedly preparing to invest $9 trillion in XRP.
