Eric Trump was reportedly demoted to a board observer role by Alt5 Sigma two weeks after he was named a director on the firm’s board of directors following discussions with NASDAQ.
According to an SEC filing, Alt5 Sigma, a crypto company holding $1.5 billion worth of WLFI tokens, decided to demote Trump to comply with NASDAQ listing rules.

The filing did not indicate which NASDAQ rule prompted the change, and the crypto firm offered no further explanations. The filing, however, highlighted that Eric Trump would be replaced by Zak Folkman, another World Liberty Financial executive.
NASDAQ ground rules require most board members at listed companies to be independent. It is unclear whether this was why Trump was demoted, because such a rule would have affected Folkman, too.
Trump is currently barred from serving as a New York corporation officer following legal tussles with the state. This also doesn’t apply as Alt5 sigma is incorporated in Nevada.
Alt5 Sigma and the World Liberty Financial Project
Alt5 Sigma connected with the Trumps after it announced it was raising $1.5 billion through direct and private sales of its shares and would use the proceeds to acquire WLFI tokens.
The proposed deal includes Eric Trump, a key stakeholder in World Liberty Financials, joining the Alt5 Sigma board of directors alongside fellow co-founder Zak Folkman, who would join as a board observer.
World Liberty Financial is a decentralized finance platform founded and run by American President Donald Trump and his three sons. Last year, the DeFi platform began selling WLFI tokens to accredited and foreign investors, tapping into the influence of Donald Trump to attract key players.
Tron Founder Justin Sun, in 2024, invested $30 million into the project and was offered an advisory role as part of his deal with the WLFI.
Alt5 Sigma looks to join the growing list of stakeholders in the crypto industry, acquiring WLFI tokens as a long-term investment strategy.
