Ethereum ETH faced a sharp rejection at the $3,400 level on Tuesday, sparking renewed debate over whether bulls can defend the key $3,000–$3,100 support zone. The move came as inflows into spot ETH exchange-traded funds accelerated again, despite on-chain indicators suggesting weakening sell pressure. Market watchers said the rejection could shape the next major trend for Ethereum ETH in December.
The rejection matters because Ethereum ETH now trades directly above a support band that has historically triggered large rebounds. Analysts also highlighted strong institutional participation this week, adding pressure on sellers at a time when aggressive taker volume appears to be bottoming. Traders now want clarity on whether Ethereum ETH will repeat its early-2025 pattern of flipping negative flows into a breakout.
Resistance Rejection and ETF Demand Clash
Ted Pillows said Ethereum dropped sharply after hitting the $3,400 resistance, calling it a clean rejection from a level that capped multiple rallies. He added that the next support sits between $3,000 and $3,100, and warned that a failure to hold that range could send Ethereum toward $2,800. Ted said a bounce from the support zone would likely produce another strong rally.

Institutional flows offered a contrasting signal. Ted noted that spot ETH ETFs recorded $57.6 million in inflows yesterday, led by BlackRock with $56.5 million. The inflow spike emerged despite the failed breakout attempt, suggesting that large buyers continued to accumulate throughout the pullback. Traders viewed the inflows as proof that institutions remained active even as technical resistance capped price expansion.
Tom Lee, speaking earlier, said Ethereum has a future value target closer to $100,000. He argued that new holders focus too much on short-term price activity. According to Lee, “Ethereum’s price is not about what’s happening today. It’s the future.” He described the cycle as a “supercycle,” driven by long-term network adoption rather than intraday trends. His statement circulated widely as Ethereum rejected the $3,400 level.
Macro Signals Reinforce Long-Term Thesis
Crypto influencer CryptosRUs said Tom Lee’s macro view aligned directly with Raoul Pal’s broader thesis on Bitcoin and Ethereum. According to the post, Lee told CNBC that Bitcoin reacted strongly to changes in the Institute for Supply Management index and that the indicator offered clearer insight than the older four-year cycle.

Lee noted that detrended Bitcoin correlated closely with the ISM and pointed to the same macro signal highlighted by Pal. When the business cycle turns upward, digital assets historically enter expansion phases.
Although Lee discussed Bitcoin, traders interpreted the comments as supportive for Ethereum ETH because the asset follows similar macro behavior. The idea of a macro-driven cycle strengthened the argument that ETF demand and improving liquidity conditions could offset the short-term rejection at $3,400.
The macro narrative grew more compelling as on-chain flows revealed weakening sell pressure across multiple weeks. Ethereum’s Net Taker Volume, measured on the 30-day moving average, pushed higher from its September lows. Analysts said the market has absorbed heavy sell flows for nearly three months, reducing aggressive taker activity. They noted that a similar pattern formed in January 2025, when negative Net Taker Volume gradually climbed before flipping positive in April. That shift coincided with a more than 3x rally and a new all-time high.
The current trajectory resembles that early-2025 trend. Based on historical pacing, analysts estimate that Ethereum ETH could see a positive flip in Net Taker Volume within one month. The earlier transition marked the beginning of Ethereum’s strongest breakout phases, according to the commentary. Traders now monitor the metric as selling pressure weakens but remains inside the negative zone.
Market Structure Hinges on $3,000–$3,100
The technical rejection at $3,400 confirmed the level as a major resistance area. Ethereum ETH now trades in a narrow band, with $3,187 acting as the immediate pivot. The broader support between $3,000 and $3,100 will likely decide the next impulse move. Ethereum attempted multiple higher lows in recent sessions, but the recent failure at trend resistance added pressure to the local structure.

Ted warned that losing the support zone sends price toward $2,800, a level aligned with previous consolidation and trendline proximity. Many traders now expect increased volatility as Ethereum approaches the support band with weakening upside momentum.
Yet institutional flows continue to complicate short-term projections. BlackRock’s heavy accumulation raised questions about local bearish expectations. Strong ETF demand often appears near pullbacks, providing a counterweight to forced selling. Combined with easing taker pressure, the setup creates opposing forces that could compress price into a tighter range before resolution.
What Comes Next for Ethereum ETH
Ethereum ETH now approaches a critical zone with mixed signals. ETF inflows remain strong, on-chain selling pressure declines, and macro indicators trend higher. However, technical rejection at $3,400 and failure to establish a higher high keep bears engaged. The $3,000–$3,100 support decides whether bulls maintain control or face an accelerated drop toward $2,800.
Traders will watch Net Taker Volume, ETF flows, and Ethereum’s response to the support zone over the coming days. If the support holds, Ethereum ETH may attempt another break above $3,400. A failure reinforces the lower target and resets short-term sentiment.
