Real Reasons Behind Bitcoin Price Crash

Bitcoin’s price has been falling sharply in recent weeks as changes in the Federal Reserve’s policies and high leverage in the market triggered selling.

Analysts said institutional rebalancing, long-term holder sales, and liquidations contributed to the decline, leaving the market uncertain about the next support levels.

Macro Shifts Spark Bitcoin Price Decline

Market watcher Tracy Stuart believe that Bitcoin’s recent drop followed sudden changes in Federal Reserve expectations.

For context, the market had priced in a 90% chance of December rate cuts, which fell to just 40%.

Short-term Treasury yields stayed above 5%, weakening the outlook that had supported Bitcoin at $126,000.

In a recent social media post, Tracy Shuchart explained that the market had become fragile after a rapid rise from $40,000 to $126,000.

Futures open interest reached $94 billion, and some platforms allowed leverage up to 1,001 to 1. This created the risk that small triggers could cause large moves.

Meanwhile, when the macro story changed, institutions sold quickly. ETF outflows reached $1.1 billion in just a few days.

Additionally, long-term holders also reduced their positions. Investors who bought Bitcoin between $40,000 and $80,000 sold 815,000 coins within a 30-day period.

Similarly, analysts said these sales were not due to holders losing confidence, but rather because they wanted to secure profits and reduce risk.

Technical stops in derivatives markets added pressure. Over $20 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated in October and November.

Some single-day losses reached $3.2 billion. The selling created a cascade effect, pushing prices lower.

Bitcoin Price Downtrend Data Shows New Support Levels

Market data suggests Bitcoin may find support around $87,500. CryptoQuant.com noted that if the ratio of short-term holders taking profits falls below 0.75, the price could test that level.

Market watchers pointed out that buyers are scarce at current prices.

Institutions are reducing risk exposure, long-term holders are waiting for lower prices, and many retail investors have stepped back.

The $600 billion drop mostly represents unrealized gains. When Bitcoin rose from $40,000 to $126,000, the market cap increased by $1.7 trillion.

Similarly, much of that gain was based on expectations of Fed easing and institutional adoption.

Now the market is adjusting to a reality of higher yields, no rate cuts, and a strong dollar.

The recent correction is a normal part of market behavior in highly leveraged markets. Notably, a 25% drop is expected after a strong rally when the underlying story changes.

The pace of the decline reflects the leverage built up in the system, not a permanent loss of value.

Signs of Recovery Could Come

Despite the fall, Bitcoin may stabilize once the leverage is cleared. Long-term holders are likely to buy again at lower levels.

Professional investors may also re-enter when volatility eases.

John E. Deaton, an early Bitcoin investor, said he experienced similar selloffs in 2017 and 2020, emphasizing the importance of patience.

The Kobeissi Letter noted that Bitcoin has seen multiple declines of 25%, 50%, and 75%, and each was followed by new highs.

Analysts suggest the current bear market is part of a normal cycle and may be closer to ending than beginning.

This is because short-term losses could create opportunities for those willing to buy at lower prices.

Volatility is expected to remain while the market finds a balance. Clearing leverage, stabilizing long-term holder behavior, and attracting new buyers will determine the next support levels.

Market watchers agree that this phase is necessary for the market to reset and prepare for the next growth period.
